Take Your Pick
Deciding which is the best energy broker to use depends on your requirements.
In the majority of cases, the best is the one that saves you the most money. If this is the case for your business, you may choose to get quotes from more than one broker.
Having two competing brokers should encourage them both to reduce their margins, and to work extremely hard to source the lowest price contract for you.
Some businesses however, those that require more than just a procurement specialist, aren’t as concerned with getting the absolute lowest price, as long as they receive the level of service that they expect.
Decide In Advance
It’s worth considering exactly what you want from an energy broker, and having that in mind when speaking to them. Do you need regular market intelligence, bill validation, flexible contract management? If you do, ask the broker to give you a demonstration of their reports and internal systems.
Some brokers offer a huge range of services, but the more they provide you with, the more you’re likely to end up paying, so decide which bits are useful to you, and ask them to quote on that basis.
As with many business partnerships, finding the right broker can involve some trial and error, so if you’re unsure as to whether your service requirement will be met, consider only going for a 12 month contract the first time you use a particular broker.
That way, they can prove their value to you over a short period of time, and you can decide whether they’re the right company for you, before entering into a longer-term contract.
